Cupping & Facial Cupping

During the initial appointment, a focused examination is conducted. You will be told what the results of the examination, what treatment(s) are appropriate, and how many treatments you will likely need.

During the treatment, if cupping therapy is done, a lotion or cream is put on the skin to increase the adherence of the cups. Cups can be placed on acupuncture points or tender points. Cups can be left in one spot or moved over the skin to treat larger areas. Cups are usually left on for 5-15 minutes. After cupping therapy, patients may notice a discoloration on the skin where the cups were placed. These discolorations may look like bruises but are not. The discolorations are toxins, stagnation, cellular debris and pathogenic factors that are being drawn to the surface by the cups to be cleared away by the circulatory system. These discolorations will fade and may take up to 2 weeks to fade completely.

Facial Cupping

Facial cupping is a gentle technique that uses negative pressure generated by small glass cups that are moved over the face. These moving cups lift gently facial tissue in order to increase local circulation of the skin and increase nutrients brought to the skin. This increased circulation results in the drainage of fluids that can accumulate in the face and reduces edema and puffiness. Lines and wrinkles plump up and scar tissue is softened by the treatments.

An additional benefit of facial cupping is the reduction of tension and tightness of the muscles of the face and scalp. This releases some of the expression lines (laugh lines, frown lines) we all accumulate over the years. Sinus problems can be diminished and relieved by the loosening and draining effects of the cups. Many patients report how much younger they look and how much brighter their eyes are. Several patients have been asked if they had had a facelift.

This relaxing procedure takes about 40 minutes. While most patients notice an immediate change with one treatment, the results of continued treatment are cumulative.
